Sure to be a truly pleasant mix of quilting, learning, friendship and fun! This is the perfect opportunity for you to gather with old friends, or plan on making new. As with our 2nd retreat, we expect many prior retreatees. But, don't fret - there is still room for a few more. Don't forget to ask all of the important quilters in your life - your mother, sister, aunt or friend - if they would like to join you!
WHEN...Wednesday, September 9 to Sunday, September 13, 2009 - Check in at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, and checkout at 11:00pm on Sunday following the included Sunday Brunch.
WHERE...The Inn at Palmer Divide* located in the foothills of the Rockies, just 50 miles south of Downtown Denver, and 25 miles north of Colorado Springs Airport.
LODGING... Stay in lovely, deluxe, and spacious rooms, each uniquely decorated in Colorado Casual Elegance, with all of the amenities such as private bath, phone, television and free wireless internet. The Inn at Palmer Divide also has a massage and exercise facility and there are elevators for your convenience.
GOURMET DINING... The MoZaic Restaurant, located at The Inn, will meet our dining needs - Full Breakfasts and Brunches, Dinners, early morning and afternoon Snacks and more. Drinks (iced-tea, coffee & water and wine with dinner) and gratuities are included in your rate. You will not go hungry.
QUILTING... Donna and Cathy, two of the sweetest gals you will ever meet, are from Bittersweet Blessings - and they will again do our Mystery Quilt project! I think you might feel our draw to them - you will fall in love with them, too! And, the mystery quilt pieces will be pre-cut -- so you can enjoy even more quilting pleasure time!
In addition to the Mystery Quilt, we have also lined up surprise visit from a well-loved 'mystery' designer who will guide us through another special take away project or two.
And, best of all, the materials for ALL of the retreat projects is included in your all-in-one package price!
Of course, no quilt retreat is complete without a bit of fun -- special drawings and games will add to the festivity. When you receive your packet, you will see that we have a special 'theme' planned - and the fun will just go from there. Plus, we have a special gift bag for each attendee, and, for those who are interested, there will be several fun group activities, and for those of you who are interested, a look at the Homespun Hearth operations.
CHALLENGE Project - 'Challenge Quilt with a Twist' -- we will have special instructions coming with your package.
FRESH AIR... For you hikers, the Inn is within walking distance of the Historic Santa Fe Trail and Mt. Herman in Pike National Forest. Most of all, everyone can view the spectacular mountains, maybe even catch a glimpse of the wild life, breathe in the freshest air and enjoy the spectacular blue skies and wildlife of Colorado while you stitch! You will find time early in the morning to take a refreshing walk. For those of you who really want to get a taste of Colorado, we recommend arriving or departing a day or two after the retreat. We will help you make arrangements at The Inn if you like.
SEWING MACHINES... You will need to bring your own. Sorry...no rentals will be available. But, we have found that today's machine carry bags make traveling by air or car a snap. We have a special bag - let us know if you are interested. Of course, if you bring your special someone with you*, you can have him carry your machine. Tell him he can bring his clubs and hit the greens.
GETTING HERE... The closest airport is Colorado Springs. The cost for transportation to and from the airport is approx $75 per taxi trip. If you decide to fly in/out of Denver International Airport, we recommend a car rental as this will likely be more economical than a taxi. Most guests find that flying into Colorado Springs is much more convenient - while the airfare is generally more than flying in and out of Denver, the overall expense (car, taxi, convenience, etc) tends to be pretty close.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?... One thing we can say about Colorado, is if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes because it will change. We recommend casual clothes, comfy shoes, and a light sweater and jacket -- after all, we are at 7,500 ft elevation, so it can get very nippy in the evenings. September is generally very comfortable in the mid-70s for the daytime, and mid-40s for the nights.
